01 · The client

Il Botteghino is a family boutique on via Vittorio Emanuele, the street everyone on Lipari eventually walks down. Daniele Ziino runs it the way his family has since 1979: brands chosen one at a time, Saint Barth, Levi's, Roy Roger's, Diadora, Blauer, and a maiolica-inspired line you will not find in any mall. Forty-seven years of saying no to the wrong product.

An island shop lives on two seasons. In summer, half of Europe passes the door; in winter, Lipari belongs to the Liparesi. A website for this shop was never going to be a generic store. It had to speak Italian, respect Italian law, carry the character of the place, and run without taking a single minute of Daniele's day. He is at the counter. The shop should be online.

02 · The challenge

The starting point

Most e-commerce projects fail after launch, not before. A boutique with no staff to spare gets a beautiful store, then drowns in product entry, and the catalog dies at a dozen items while the seasons move on.

Italian consumer law is not optional and not simple: withdrawal rights, explicit consent, six separate legal documents. Getting one wrong is the kind of mistake that costs real money.

And the catalog arrives the way brands send it: Excel files, every season, forever. Someone would have to type it all in. That someone was not going to be Daniele.

03 · The approach

What I did

  1. Build the shop, not a template.

A custom Liquid theme written from scratch: editorial homepage, product pages with variant picker, cart drawer with free-shipping progress, the look of the boutique rather than the look of a theme store. The client owns every pixel because none of it is rented.

  2. Make the catalog flow, not be typed.

A CLI workflow on the Shopify GraphQL Admin API turns the brand Excel files straight into products: variants, barcodes, inventory, staged media uploads, channel publishing. The first real product, a Blauer T-shirt, went live with 9 variants and 7 photos and zero manual clicks in the admin.

  3. Pass the legal audit before it exists.

Six legal and compliance pages, consent and withdrawal flows built into the theme itself, so the shop opened already aligned with Italian consumer law instead of patching it later.

  4. Make every product citable.

Per-product SEO and AEO enrichment with FAQ structured data (FAQPage JSON-LD): pages that answer questions, not just list sizes. When the next brand catalogs land, Emme Marella, K-Way, My Best Bag, they flow through the same pipeline and become citable on day one.

04 · The results

What changed

The first real product went live end to end, nine variants and seven photos, with zero manual clicks in the admin. The theme belongs to the client, the pipeline belongs to the shop, and the next catalogs will flow in the same way. A 47-year-old boutique is now open on days the ferry is full and days the street is empty.
